UK weather: North could see more flooding as warm temperatures to stay in south

A Met Office amber weather warning for rain has been issued in parts of Scotland for Tuesday and Wednesday

The UK will experience a mild start to the week, with patchy fog, drizzle and clouds gradually lifting to leave sunshine for many parts of the UK.

Monday should see clouds clearing to a sunny day in southeast EnglandScotland and Northern Ireland.

Later in the day sunshine will also appear in parts of northern England, Wales and southwest England.

There may be some cloud, rain and drizzle in central England which will hang around for much of the day, although this should clear to the east of the country by the evening.

Following a warm weekend where the UK recorded the highest temperature of the year so far,  temperatures will remain mild this week with daytime highs around 14C or 15C in some parts of the UK.

Tuesday will be windy for many and parts of northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland with a risk of gale force winds in some areas. The Met Office have issued a yellow warning for wind with gusts of up to 50mph expected on Tuesday.

Those living in Scotland could be hit by floods with 120mm of water is set to fall over a 36-hour period on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Amber weather warnings of rain have also been put into place in areas including Perth, Stirling, and Dumfries and Galloway.

Heavy rain Tuesday may also cause flooding in some parts of north Wales and northwest England and there are several flood warnings in place.

However, it will remain warm and dry for southern and central England.

Rain and cloud will continue to affect the northwest on Wednesday, while southern England will see sunshine and very high temperatures for this time of year.

London could feel temperatures rise to as high as 17C, which is is way above the average of 8.6C for this time of year.

In contrast, parts of Scotland will feel considerably colder, with temperatures as low as 8C for some.

Thursday should see the rain clear for the majority of the UK and temperatures look set to remain mild.
