UK weather: The latest Met Office forecast

The UK is expected to enjoy brighter, warmer conditions after Storm Hannah passes over the weekend.

Saturday night is likely to remain cold, with long spells of rain forecast in Northern Ireland, Wales, central and northern England.

But an “improved picture” will emerge after the brunt of the storm passes, Simon Partridge, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said.

“As Storm Hannah moves southeastwards we will see drier and lighter conditions across the UK,” he said.

“It will still be cloudy in the east and we can expect some rain there but in the west we’re expecting clear skies.”

The Met Office expects frosty conditions to emerge by Sunday morning in western regions, especially for England and Wales.

Sunday will also have a cloudy start, with some patchy rain in the east and southeast.

Mr Partridge said there would be “increasing brightness” throughout the day but that there was a chance of rain during Sunday’s London Marathon.

Temperatures will peak at 16C in London and the southeast and also in Scotland.

But conditions elsewhere will be slightly gloomier, with thick cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain expected in Devon and Cornwall.

Mr Partridge said that an area of “high pressure” in the east of the UK will usher in more settled spring conditions next week.

“On the whole it will be milder,” he said.

“Rain will move eastwards during Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by sunshine and showers,” the Met Office said.

Temperatures across the UK will be around 15C in the middle of the week but could reach 19C by next weekend.

Mr Partridge said conditions would be “much more improved” but that temperatures would not reach the record-breaking highs seen during Easter weekend.
