Money lovers: LETTER
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.HOW strange that The Oxford Book of Money ("The Last Word on Money", 26 February) fails to include the genius of Ayn Rand. The following is from her masterpiece Atlas Shrugged (1957):
"So you think that money is the root of all evil? Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value ... that man's mind is the root of all the goods produced and of all the wealth that has ever existed on earth.
"Or did you say it's the love of money that's the root of all evil? To love money is to know and love the fact that money is the creation of the best power within you, and your passkey to trade your effort for the effort of the best among men.
"The lovers of money are willing to work for it. They know they are able to deserve it."
