YOUR front-page headline "British Rail sale should stop ..." (16 April) encapsulates what I have long felt. Two weeks ago I travelled on the doomed Fort William sleeper - eating breakfast while crossing the wastes of Rannoch Moor was unforgettable, as was the onward journey to Mallaig and the majestic Glenfinnan viaduct. I have written to numerous MPs and spent two weeks travelling from Thurso to Penzance to celebrate our railway heritage while we still have it. What more can I do? I despair.
