Roy Hattersley does find room in his article to consider the systems in Germany and Eire and for some elections in Australia. In the case of Eire the voters have substantially rejected attempts to change from their STV system in two referendums. Objections to STV come predominantly from politicians in Eire who feel their electorate have too much choice both across and within party boundaries and in their own favoured party can express a preference for a candidate who is not the party bosses' first choice.
The result? There are no safe seats. Is this what Mr Hattersley fears?
