LETTER: Let constituents decide MPs' pay

From Mr Peter Williams

Sir: I understand the Government's prudence in wishing to limit pay rises in the public sector. I have two suggestions that would help to save money and would make the Conservative government much more electable. First, we could have local pay bargaining for MPs. This would enable the public to reward politicians at a suitable level and make them much more accountable to their electors. Secondly, we could forget to fund any rises in MPs wages and make them find the money by increased productivity. (Would that mean there would be less of them?)

Yours sincerely,

Peter Williams
