Letter: From Ronnie to the races

WHILE flattered to be thought worthy of mention in Vicky Ward's article 'The fastest track to success' (9 October), I should like to assure your readers that reports of my disappearance from journalism are premature.

It is a tired canard that I was totally unknown when, in 1974, I discovered Ronald Biggs in Brazil. In fact, I had been on the Daily Express for 10 years at that time and had covered many important stories around the world.

These days I have a daily bylined column (frequently with a picture) in the sports section of the Daily Mail, where I am the racing correspondent. If Ms Ward wishes to make it big in journalism, I suggest that she does her research a little more thoroughly.
