Is Jonathan Davies serious when he states: "Even if you have to start a mass punch-up, you must force the referee to take action..." and "If the referee doesn't punish them, you have to do it yourself with a good raking" ("The rough guide to domination", Sport, 8 December)?
His impression of the reasons for southern-hemisphere dominance are at odds with others', such as Chris Rea's ("Outdated and outpaced", Sport, 8 December), and while he is entitled to opine on the reasons for failure, his encouragement of foul and dangerous play is unwelcome.
