In addition to Neal Ascherson's accolade to hospital porters ("The people who keep Britain sane ...", 20 April) may I add one for ambulance men? My late husband suffered a deep stroke. Throughout five years of fits, broken femurs, bleeding ulcers, etc, the reassuring "no problem" bonhomie of the prompt ambulance crews gave the greatest comfort and reassurance.
