Sir: If there had not been so many tragic consequences, your report today that 25 'respected experts' have 'now begin to feel that we were nave' would have provoked nothing but amusement in this household. The conclusion, after all, has been glaringly obvious to everyone except the 'experts' for at least two decades.

We can now draw a further glaringly obvious conclusion: everyone should stop 'respecting' these 'experts' forthwith, and go back to using some common sense.
