Letter: When voting lacks rhyme or reason

Sir: Let me see if I've got this right. James Fenton (6 June) has been advised to vote Liberal Democrat in the Euro elections for tactical reasons. This must mean that Labour is lying third in his area. Therefore, given that he isn't voting Tory, voting Labour will make it more likely that the Tories win the seat. And he will vote Labour, because he wants to 'damage the Tories as much as possible'.

Still, his Oxford chair is in poetry, not logic.

Yours faithfully,

NIGEL RAMSDEN

Claydon, Suffolk
