Letter: Trials of a Forties single parent

Sir: Unmarried mothers or single-parent families, call them what you will, would seem more able to give undivided love and attention to their offspring than parents whose short-lived marriage vows result in three-parent if not four-parent families of stepchildren.

The infighting resulting in confusion and divided loyalties among youngsters in the latter case could also be seen as 'irresponsible' and merit the moral pontificating we are hearing just now.

Yours faithfully,

ROBERT VINCENT
