Sir: The tale of two poverties told by the employed Robin Basak (Letters, 6 August) and the unemployed Clare Prout (Letters, 8 August) pitches unemployed poverty against employed poverty. Instead of walloping each other with their shared misfortune they should reflect that they are both underpaid and overtaxed. The beneficiaries of their poverty are the people who are well paid and undertaxed.
