Letter: The remedy is a lottery strike

Sir: Why don't we let the punter decide where his lottery losses go? It would be quite simple to allow the lottery participant, at the time of purchase of a ticket or scratch-card, to choose which part of the fund will benefit from his "donation" eg heritage, charities, sports etc.

I rather suspect that if my suggestion had been implemented from the outset there would not have been enough money nominated to the heritage fund to allow the purchase of either the Churchill papers or Mar Lodge (report, 27 April).

Yours faithfully,

ARCHIE SHEARLAW
