From Ms Rhoda Koenig

Sir: The author of the marginal notes on your arts page today (31 October) asks, with reference to the black singer and actress Diahann Carroll's starring in the touring company of Sunset Boulevard, "Is the American musical at last turning colour-blind?"

In 1962, Richard Rodgers opened No Strings with a white cast and ... Diahann Carroll.

Yours truly,

Rhoda Koenig
