HOW SAD that Fay Weldon feels a university-educated person is far pleasanter to be with than an uneducated person. Some of our greatest writers left universities because they found them stifling, boring and rigid. And how many great writers - Dickens, Mann, Melville, Balzac, Virginia Woolf and countless others - were self-educated? What an awful way to judge people.
