Sir: It was a little disappointing to read Jonathan Glancey's article about proposals for the development of Brighton beach, 'Sun, sea and . . . concrete?' (24 August). I am concerned at the suggestion that Brighton Borough Council may grant planning permission tomorrow (25 August) when the earliest date that the application could be decided is actually 20 September.
Does Mr Glancey really not understand that Brighton Council, or any other planning authority for that matter, has to give proper consideration to any planning application that comes before it and cannot 'reject the application out of hand'?
Yours sincerely,
C. B. WHITWELL
Assistant Director (East),

Department,
Brighton Borough Council
