Sir: Dr J. Ilangaratne (letter, 15 April) is understandably concerned about the national impact of newly defined entities such as the "Lottery Stress Disorder" (British Medical Journal, 1 April). This disorder would appear to have replaced "lottery fever" as a potential threat to the health of the nation. However, before allocating limited government resources to investigate this "health hazard", the date on which the BMJ article was published should be not be forgotten.
