LETTER: supermarket's alone won't revitalise town centres

YOUR story "Supermarkets open their own corner shops" (17 September) is inaccurate in its comments on Sainsbury's intentions. We are not proposing to open 60 corner shops. I think this misunderstanding may have occurred because we have said that we shall be looking to open up to 60 new petrol filling stations on sites adjacent to our existing supermarkets.

These will be visible from our main store for reasons of branding and management. They will sell a small range of basic lines similar to those sold in other petrol stations but they will be nothing more than that.
