I MUST take issue with Bunhill's award of a bottle of bubbly to a reader who proposes a tax on cyclists who ride two abreast (18 July). It seems neither your prizewinner nor Bunhill has read the Highway Code recently. That states cyclists should not ride more than two abreast; they are required to ride single file only when the road is narrow.
The French are more considerate to their cyclists: their highway code requires drivers to leave a full car's width when passing cyclists. And they do. Bunhill should be offering prizes to environmentally friendly cyclists, not seeking to further restrict us.
