Letter: Speak up for the written word
Sir: Handwriting and calligraphy are separate uses of a writing tool. Word processors are excellent but they will never replace the need to write legibly. Can we ever foresee everyone having a personal "lap top" or being allowed to use it in every situation?
Ken Welsby (letter, 6 June) spoils his admirable plea that "we should be teaching children how to express ideas and information properly" by adding the irrelevant idea to "leave calligraphy as an option in the handicraft syllabus".
