IT SEEMS extraordinary that Chaim Bermant in 'Go seeking Jews and ye shall find' (25 July) should surmise that the term 'seek and ye shall find' 'was probably invented by a Jew-seeker'. The term can be found in the New Testament (Matthew 7:7) where it is spoken by the one thought by many to be the greatest of all Jews, Jesus of Nazareth. He sought - and seeks - both Jews and gentiles to follow him into seeking and knowing God with the assurance that 'every one who asks receives, he or she who seeks finds, and to him or her who knocks it will be opened'.
