Sir: Here it is again, that old school uniform chestnut: "It is not fair on children from poor families to allow them to be visibly outdone in designer labels" ... as though a uniform was designed to destroy any evidence of poverty.
In my days in uniform (1967-69) you could spot the poor boys straight away. Their regulation grey trousers came to an end three inches or more above their ankles, because their parents couldn't afford to buy them new ones.
