Letter: Rugged and flat

Sir: As a passionate lover of north Norfolk, I was both delighted and saddened that Anna Pavord was not 'awed' by her walk there ('A soul beached on shifting sands', 12 December).

Delighted, because I hope the area remains as it is for those who appreciate its beauty. Long may it remain so. Saddened, because she was not enchanted by the vast open spaces where horizon and sea meet, the loneliness, the unquestionably beautiful sandy beaches, the marshes, the coastal footpaths which in season boast exquisite wild flowers, the delightful flint cottages . . .

I too remember childhood summers in South Wales. Flat coastline or rugged, I believe both have equal beauty. Just different.

Yours faithfully,

HELENA C. JOHNSON
