Sir: Where has Chris Mowbray been living in recent years? In his article 'Phone boxes find a haven from vandals' (16 June) he claims people can never find a phone box when they want one, and that if they do it is probably out of order or vandalised. British Telecom has in fact increased the number of its public payphones in the 10 years since privatisation from 77,000 to 124,000.
And more than nine out of 10 are working at any one time.
