Sir: Am I the only person to be sickened by the media treatment of the case of Nick Ingram?
I see it as perfectly acceptable that the facts of the case and all the legal moves to stay execution should be reported. However, I can see no justification for the detailed descriptions of the horrifying death process that have appeared in so many newspapers, including the Independent. To me, it has verged on the pornographic.
Perhaps I am unduly squeamish about descriptions of physical torture; but it has now, on Thursday, reached the point when I flinch from listening to the radio (The Moral Maze, Radio 4), reading the papers or watching the television news.
Yours faithfully,
JENNY ADAMS
