Sir: Diane Abbot has missed the point about prostitute cards (letter, 22 June). The point is that 90 per cent of residents say they want them removed from phone boxes, where they easily offend, create litter, project an adverse image of London - and cannot be avoided.
However, that is not to say that there are not alternative methods of advertising that could be open to prostitutes (Yellow Pages, for instance) which would allow the economics of the business to continue unimpeded, while protecting the majority of the public. Part of the city council's policy is to explore such options with the relevant authorities.
Yours faithfuly,
MILES YOUNG
Leader of the Council
City of Westminster
London, SW1
