NOT BEING burdened by any fundamental religious beliefs, I maintain a healthy scepticism concerning biblical accounts of history. I do profess faith, however, in the integrity of the Independent on Sunday. So when your reporter David Keys informed me ('Leading archaeologist says Old Testament stories are fiction', 28 March) that there is no archaeological evidence to support the first 10 books of the Bible, I was prepared to accept his word. However, I also believed him when he told us, not so many months ago, that the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant had been established. Surely one story contradicts the other.
Everyone needs some basic tenets of faith to see them through life. Please do not destroy mine in the IoS.
