Letter: It was a war worth fighting
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.LAST SUNDAY I would have expected your leader writer to comment on the freeing of Kosovar Albanians from Serb tyranny and perhaps to have acknowledged that his previous carping criticism of Nato's efforts (eg, "Out of Control", 2 May) had been proved completely wrong. I should have known better. Instead your Comment page was degraded by giving space to the ludicrous rantings of the Labour MP for Medway ("We polished our weapons while the Albanians died", 20 June). Bob Marshall-Andrews' interpretation of the tragedy beggars belief and is a deep insult not only to logic but to the many thousands who have been butchered. I am a Labour Party member, glad not to be in his constituency because there is no way I would turn out for someone with such a blinkered mindset who simply just doesn't get it. On the other hand I was moved by Emma Daly's account of refugees returning to Kosovo and the joy of reunited families ("A celebration of being alive"). Her article brought home what it was all about, why it had to be done and why it was most definitely worth it.
