Sir: I will probably be in the minority in defending Portsmouth's Tricorn Centre in response to Alan Hallsworth's letter about ugly buildings (26 October). To me, this shopping centre is one of the most beautiful developments of its genre. It is a good example of concrete warm, not concrete stone- cold. Viewed from a distance, each of its elevations reveals a differing attractiveness.
Inside, it is full of a changing character reflected from the community it serves. Feel the real.
If cost considerations stay the hand of its would-be levellers, I for one will give a hearty cheer.
Yours faithfully, SUSAN MONSELL Director Cranleigh Concrete Company Daneshill, Hampshire 26 October
