Sir: Carole Tongue, MEP, refers (Letters, 23 April) to the merits of single-member constituencies.

What merits? They may suit MPs very nicely, particularly those in safe seats, but a party list of one gives the voter no elective power.

Multi-member constituencies with the single transferable vote would be the people's choice.
