Letter:Football's new war zone

Sir: Surely it is wrong to ridicule the Tory Right for insisting on outdated passport controls to keep foreigners out of these wondrous isles while Irish and Continental football associations are frantically trying to avoid having to come here for the 1996 European Championships.

Credit should be given where due - the controls are not intended to keep people out; they are the only tool left to keep unappetising people in.
