Sir: While it is important that the scrutiny of parliamentary democracy and policy making triggered by the publication of the Scott report should be sustained, we should also consider the broader issues involved in the affair.
Does the Government feel that the export of defence-related equipment is an appropriate economic activity for a modern civil society to promote (all the way up to ministerial level), no matter how odious the recipients? And, if so, would it defend the right of other governments to supply, say, the IRA?
Yours faithfully,
John Morgan
