Sir: I write to support Derek Jarman's plea for the survival of St Bartholomew's Hospital, in his splendid letter on the front page of the Independent (5 May). Recent catastrophes in the City of London have underlined its strategic importance, not only for the City but also for a huge area of population beyond.
It is useless for Virginia Bottomley to point to the Royal London Hospital: apart from its geographical distance, this hospital - like so many others - is already overburdened and underfunded.
Yours sincerely,
BRYAN ROBERTSON
