Sir: The current furore over the relationship of the trade unions to the Labour Party raises the whole question of political parties in a truly democratic state.
For true democracy all political parties should be funded by the subscriptions of individual members and controlled by the votes of individual members. It is quite inequitable and undemocratic that large corporate bodies, be they unions or public companies, should seek to sway policy by the injection of corporate funds.
