Letter: Clergyman's views incompatible with Christian ministry

Sir: Although I do not agree with Anthony Freeman's conclusions in his book God in Us, the action taken by the Bishop of Chichester ('Bishop sacks clergyman who does not believe in God', 28 July) reminds me of an English teacher we had at my shcool. No matter how beautiful, insightful and multifaceted a poem was, or how enriched it became by each member of the class's understanding of it, there was only ever one 'real' interpretation of it in his mind - his own.
