Sir: Thanks to the recent disclosures of events surrounding the death of Stephen Milligan, my not- quite 14-year-old daughter and I now know all about auto-erotic asphyxiation.

Somehow our lives have not been enriched by this knowledge. My daughter's face registered horror as the news sank in.

As parents, we are trying to instil self-respect and respect for others in her. It is a great pity we are not backed up by certain members of the Tory party in our efforts.
