Sir: Mrs Airey's claim that television "stops you doing family things like eating a meal together" is extraordinary ("Backlash against the television starts here", 26 April).
There are two television sets in our house, yet somehow we manage to eat a family meal together every day. The secret to this astonishing accomplishment is self-control, and the realisation that the TV has an "off" button.
May I also assure Mrs Wilson that there is no need to be bereft of TV in order to develop musical talent - ask anyone in the National Youth Orchestra, of which I am a member.
Must dash - snooker's on.
