Sir: There is nothing wrong with asking the question whether or not Schubert is better than Blur. What is wrong is to suggest that it is a meaningless question. I prefer the approach of the late F. R. Leavis, who believed that you should forcefully make your case about a particular work and then ask "This is so, is it not?", inviting a reasoned and constructive response.
