Letter: An opt-out from EU elections

Sir: Sarah Lambert ('Your vote really matters', 23 May) states: 'Whatever your opinion of Europe - or John Major - vote, vote, vote on 9 June.'

The problem is that I am not a Europhile or a Euro-sceptic, but a Euro-atheist. I have no animosity towards President Delors or Commissioner Brittan. I simply do not want to have anything to do with the whole farrago.

May I be allowed to negotiate my own opt-out of the Treaty of Rome, under the principle of subsidiarity?
