Sir: The kind words about the Family Covenant Association by Jane Wynne Willson of the British Humanist Association in your column of 25 July are most welcome. But I would like to correct one of her statements.
The alternative to baptism we are offering is not just a 'non-religious alternative'. It is non-religious for those who want it that way but, as our forthcoming book How to Make a Family Covenant will show, we are also including suggestions about a ceremony with a strong religious tone to it, which has at its heart the explicit affirmation by the parents of their moral commitment to the child as long as the child is dependent.
Yours,
