ONE CANNOT but sympathise with Simon Hughes as a fast bowler sturdily trying his best, despite playing for Durham and being bereft of the Asian 'super sweat' that magically transforms cricket balls ('Ball-doctoring: an ancient art widely practised', 30 August). I wouldn't mind betting that he also lacks the rhythm all God's chillun have, not to mention the devilish cunning of the Chinee.
However, a 'quality' broadsheet such as the Independent on Sunday should have been able to exercise sufficient editorial control to avoid propagating such racist drivel. Indeed, if the sun hasn't got to poor Simon, I suggest that Simon be got to the Sun.
