It has been reported that a user on eBay tried to sell a James Holmes mask this week.

Although it's no longer listed on eBay, the mask apparently had a starting price of $500 and the advice to “SHOCK EVERYONE YOU KNOW!”

Holmes is charged with killing 12 people and wounding 58 others in a shooting spree at a Colorado screening of 'A Dark Knight Rises' on 20 July, but is yet to face trial.

The offensive listing read:

“There is nothing more scary than crawling into James Holmes mind and wearing his face. His ‘soul penetrating eyes’ and ‘The Joker’ orange hair makes this mask the most disturbing object you will ever own. Imagine owning the mask of supposedly the most dangerous mass murderer in US history.”

The mask was removed from eBay on Friday, as they told ABC:

“The listing was removed because it did not comply with our Offensive Materials policy. Out of respect for victims of violent crimes, eBay does not allow listings that attempt to profit from human tragedy or suffering.”

Many have understandably expressed their distress over the item being sold on the auction site, including those who were injured during the attack. It's not yet been revealed whether the user will face a ban from the site or legal action.
