Your support makes all the difference.Gary Lineker has been forced to apologise after making a comment on two Muslim footballers during a match commentary on Al Jazeera TV.
The two players celebrated a goal by dropping to their knees and bowing their heads in the Islamic prayer position, and former footballer Lineker said they “ate grass”.
The move was widely criticised by viewers, but the football pundit said he didn't realise they were praying.
The comment was made during Wednesday night’s Champions League game between Schalke and Montpellier.
Lineker said: “A terrific effort from Karim Ait-Fana, who scored from just outside the area and then ate grass...as you do.”
The former England and Spurs player, wrote on his website: “I’m sorry but I’m not aware of every player’s religion.”
The 51-year-old commentator is reportedly facing a pay cut to his £2million-a-year salary at the BBC, but they are yet to comment on the story.
