From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

After last week's controversy over lip-syncing at Obama's Inauguration (turns out she did), the pressure was on for Beyonce to wow during the next major event on the American calendar: The Super Bowl.

And the consensus from the interweb? She impressed. Boy, did she impress! She even blew a fuse. Shaun of the Dead director, Edgar Wright summed up the mood of stunned appreciation on Twitter with a reference to classic Destiny's Child "They were right. I wasn't ready for that jelly. Wow." With a little more time for reflection, Amanda Dobbins of New York Magazine, still managed to convey the same excitement: "Beyonce is a spectacle. She is a force of nature. She was put on the Earth to stomp around in giant gladiator heels an shake it to the "uh oh"s while giant fireballs launch into the stadium sky. Luckily, this is exactly the sort of thing that happens at the Superbowl..."

It wasn't all Beyonce worship, however. Julia Turner of Slate magazine interpreted the performance as a slight on the rest of Destiny's Child and perfectionists @Popjustice felt Beyonce was "about an inch too far to the left during the Charlie's Angels post bit."
