Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. What could possibly go wrong? You've seen our story about the Pope's attempt to launch a dove of peace into the air from the Vatican yesterday, only for a seagull to vigorously intercept its flight.
Naturally this is a point to remind the theologically challenged among you that the seagull's interception was known in advance by God, and indeed could aptly be described as His Will. And let's take this moment of divine providence to remind ourselves that the Pope tweets, and that yesterday he tweeted thus: "What does Sunday, the day of the Lord, mean for us? It is a day for rest and for family, but first of all a day for Him." That profound statement has had 5,934 retweets, all of them presumably His Will too.
But will the Pope not tweet about his dove of peace and the seagull meeting mid-air too? His nearly 1.5 million followers deserve better, surely.
