Help The Hungry: Norwegian artist auctions off work to tackle food poverty

A Mayfair gallery has partnered with Norwegian artist Henrik Aa Uldalen to launch an online auction in aid of our Help The Hungry appeal partner, The Felix Project.

Readers have until 1 December to bid for a personalised oil portrait by Henrik Uldalen in the online auction which is estimated to raise around £10,000 for the charity.

Uldalen deploys surrealist techniques to add fresh depths to his portraiture – allowing dark contemporary touches in his figurative style when working on both traditional oil paintings and large scale murals.

The JD Malat Gallery, which is known for its contemporary art, will donate all proceeds of the auction to Felix, who collect and deliver nutritious surplus food to vulnerable people across the country.

Throughout lockdown the charity has also worked with The Independent to deliver thousands of hot meals to those in need through our state-of-the-art truck as part of our campaign to end food poverty.

Uldalen told The Independent: “To be able to contribute to a kinder society is an honour. All I can wish for is that the campaign helps protect and nurture the defenceless. The priority of any land should be its people.”

Jean-David Malat, the founder of the gallery, added: “It is terrible that there are children and vulnerable people without food.

“We want to help ensure that disadvantaged children and homes in the UK have the resilience, hope and happiness that we wish for our own families.”
