Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Uefa

England's footballing forays in eastern Europe over the last 24-hours have provided fans with two causes to call up Uefa over Twitter. Racist chants and violence marred England's under-21s victory against Serbia last night, while the first team's World Cup qualifier against Poland had to be postponed from yesterday afternoon to today because of a waterlogged pitch.

Yesterday Hilary Mantel became the first woman ever to win the prestigious Man Booker Prize twice for her novel Bring Up the Bodies, the sequel to her 2009 winner Wolf Hall.

To mark the Yorkshire-based soap's 40th birthday, ITV will be showing a completely live episode at 7pm tonight. Emmerdale will follow in the footsteps EastEnders, The Bill and Coronation Street, all of which have produced gaffe-laden live episodes. The soap, formerly know by its full moniker Emmerdale Farm, shares its birthday with an entirely different monster indeed, with #happybirthdayEminem also trending today, celebrating the shock-rapper's 40 years.
