From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Ex-serviceman Michael Crossan served in the Royal Highland Fusiliers but became homeless after leaving the army and following a period of travelling. He got back on his feet and rediscovered his love of art with the help of Veterans Aid and has now seen his work displayed in London galleries. He has donated his brilliant ‘'Somme (ber)'’, a remarkable homage to the First World War with its three dimensional top fading midway into a painted canvas above a lino print. It tells the story of a long ago conflict but is also a metaphor for Michael's own transition from military to civilian life. This is a large piece, approx. 200cm x 76cm, the size of a door – in fact it was a door. Now it is a totem for our campaign. Please note this item is for collection by the buyer only from the offices of The Independent and Evening Standard, unless otherwise agreed.
