The Prime Minister shook hands and shared selfies with residents in the market square of the cathedral city where she met traders, residents and emergency service personnel.
One woman proposed a fist bump, which Ms May reciprocated.
Former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter remain in critical condition after the poisoning, which the Government has blamed on Russia.
